Each Party recognizes that an armed attack against either Party in the territories under the administration of Japan would be dangerous to its own peace and safety and declares that it would act to meet the common danger in accordance with its constitutional provisions and processes.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall be immediately reported to the Security Council of the United Nations in accordance with the provisions of Article 51 of the Charter. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.

日本国とアメリカ合衆国との間の相互協力及び安全保障条約（Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States and Japan）は、日本国とアメリカ合衆国の安全保障のため、日本本土にアメリカ軍が駐留することなどを定めた二国間条約のことである。1960年（昭和35年）1月19日に、ワシントンD.C.で締結された。いわゆる日米同盟の根幹を成す条約であり、条約には「日米地位協定」が付属している。ただし、日本において日米関係を「同盟」と表現するのが一般化したのは、1980年代になってからのことである。
形式的には1951年（昭和26年）に署名され翌1952年（昭和27年）に発効した旧安保条約を失効させ、新たな条約として締約・批准されたが、実質的には安保条約の改定とみなされている。この条約に基づき、在日米軍としてアメリカ軍の日本駐留を引き続き認めた。60年安保条約、新安保条約などともいわれる。新・旧条約を特段区別しない場合の通称は日米安全保障条約、日米安保条約。
