10 Things Japanese People Do Better Than You

Japan has always been one of the countries that sits quietly in the corner, whilst places such as the UK and USA make all the headlines. However, it’s always the quiet ones you have to watch out for; so they say. In fact, Japanese people are doing a ton of things a lot better than the rest of the world. From technology to comic books, here are the 10 things Japanese people do better than the rest of the world.

    Video Games

Of course we’re going to kick off the list with the one thing that Japan, and Japanese people, are renowned for; video games. The first ever video games were pioneered in Japan and this country definitely set a precedent for things to come. In fact, Japanese video game manufacturers dominated the industry for years to come. Take a look at Sony, for example, who released the Playstation 4 last year. It is dominating the video game charts and has put US based company, Microsoft, down a few pegs or two.

The best video game companies of all time are based in Japan, from the retro Nintendo and Sega to the much loved Sony and Square Enix. Next time you load up your favorite game take a look at the developer name in the credits.

We’re willing to bet that there is some Japanese influence in there, even if the company isn’t solely owned by Japanese people. They have the experience, the knowledge, the creativity, and the technology to make the best games in the world. There is no denying that Japanese people make the world’s best video games and we doubt that is going to change at any point soon.

    Vending Machines

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/2/

What is it about Japan and vending machines? Practically everywhere you look you will find a wide array of vending machines to satisfy your thirst or hunger, but it doesn’t just stop there. There’s even an urban myth that panty vending machines can be found on practically every street corner. Whilst that may not be true, there is no denying that Japanese people loved their weird and wonderful vending machines. Every single beverage in Japanese vending machines is packed into a can, from the biggest selection of teas and coffees you’ll ever see in your life all the way through to beer and fruit juice.

If you’re feeling more puckish than hungry you can even get canned jelly, canned bread, and canned stew. Basically, if it can be packed into a can then you’ll be able to get it out of a vending machine in Japan. Some vending machines even have little games and lotteries running, to entice people to buy more. Get the right number after making your selection and you’ll win yourself a free drink.

    Food

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/3/

Okay, so you may want to argue that your country has the best food in the world, but nothing is actually as award-winning as Japanese food. It seems as though the people of Japan just know how to tick all the right boxes when it comes to making delicious food. Healthy food too! There’s the world renowned sushi, gyoza and Miso soup to get things started, not to mention ramen, sashimi and donburi. In fact, just talking about Japanese food has got our stomachs rumbling.

Japanese people know how to eat and yet they all seem to stay so skinny. It’s probably because their diets are packed full of fresh fish and vegetables, as opposed to a ton of sugar and fats. Of course, they don’t always get food right in Japan. We’re talking about the raw horse meat dishes (no thanks) and fugu, a fish which may kill you if not prepared properly.

    Anime and Manga

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/4/

This may be a bit of an odd one seeing as Japan is technically the only country that does Anime and Manga, so of course they’re going to be better at it than the rest of the world. However, seeing as Anime and Manga means cartoons and comics respectively, we thought all you clever people would see what we mean! Although some countries around the world have produced some awesome cartoon series and comic books, nothing compares to what the people of Japan release on an almost daily basis. All of the greatest cartoons and comics have come from Japan, including Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Fist of the North Star (to name just a few). Even if Japanese animation isn’t exactly your thing there is no denying that it has the biggest fan base around the world. People go to conventions purely to meet the creators of the comics and the characters from the cartoons. It is a billion dollar industry and one that appeals to children and adults alike. Japanese people are more than proud of their Anime and Manga; just a quick walk around Tokyo will prove that.

    Public Transport

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/5/

The Japanese people may have a few quibbles about their transport infrastructure (which country’s residents don’t) but those who visit Japan from around the world think it is one of the best. As Japan is an island nation you can catch a boat to pretty much anywhere, which we think is an awesome form of public transport. If you’re the kind of person that gets sea sick easily then you’ll probably be looking at other ways of getting around the country. How about the fastest train service in the world? The Japanese bullet train will get you where you need to be in less time than it would take you to fly to most parts of your own country. If you include all of that waiting around for baggage and security. Japanese people can also boast the most frequent, cleanest and most comfortable public transport that the world has ever seen. It’s no wonder Japanese people are always so punctual (see our next point) when they have public transport that’s never late and runs faster than any other transport infrastructure in the world. It does mean you can’t use the “my train was delayed” excuse when you get into work late, however.

    **

    Punctuality

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/6/

Maybe it is because of the incredible public transport system or maybe it’s something genetic. Whatever it is, Japanese people are some of the most punctual in the world. In fact, being late is as rude as slapping someone in the face in Japan. Almost. Japanese people are extremely set in their ways, and one of those ways is never being late. It is considered common courtesy to turn up 10 minutes early to any kind of appointment, from seeing the doctor to an important business meeting. The people of Japan take their punctuality so seriously that you’ll even get a proof of lateness slip from the railway operator if their always-on-time trains are running even a few minutes late. If you have arranged for something to be delivered to you, from a pizza to a parcel, then you can bet your bottom dollar it will be there on time. And in most cases, at least 10 minutes early. Some people think that being this regimented is dull, but for the people of Japan it is simply a way of life. We think there is nothing wrong in being punctual; it is polite, after all.

    Toilets

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/7/

If you ask anyone who has visited Japan what most stood out in their mind, they’re most likely to mention toilets. And not because they’re dirty or holes in the ground, like you’ll find in some Asian countries. In fact, Japan has some of the most awesome space-age toilets that the world has ever seen. We’re talking features such as heated seats, spray functions which can allow pressure, direction and heat to be adjusted, an ambient noise function to mask any embarrassing plops, automatic opening lids, and a whole host of flush options. Honestly, going to the toilet in Japan is looking going on an adventure. Japanese people are so proud of their toilets that they even have a toilet themed restaurant. Here you can eat that world-class Japanese food from toilet bowls and bidets, before rinsing your fingers in a mini urinal. It may sound completely bizarre, but the people of Japan obviously have a thing about bathrooms. Once you have experienced a Japanese toilet you will never want to go back to using the boring, doesn’t sing or dance, toilet in your own home. Good news, you can order a Japanese space-age toilet for your own home, if you’ve got the cash.

    **

    Restaurants

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/8/

Moving on from our point about a toilet-themed restaurant, this isn’t the only weird and wacky idea the Japanese people have come up with when it comes to eateries. Anywhere you go in Japan you’re likely to find a bizarrely themed restaurant, which far exceeds any of your dining expectations. Plus, we already know how good Japanese food is, so why not give a themed restaurant a try? Just some of the wonderful creations to come out of Japan including shipping container sushi eateries, the Alice in Wonderland themed restaurant, an Igloo noodle diner, and even secret rooftop bars. If you want to combine your love of Japanese characters and food then you’ll also find Hello Kitty restaurants, Pokemon diners, and a whole ton of other Anime and Manga based eateries. Whatever type of food you fancy and whatever setting you want to eat it in, you can bet that you’ll find something in Japan. This country is also home to the infamous cat cafes which are now popping up all over the world. Japanese people truly know how to include a real experience in your ‘dining experience’. Plus, all the restaurants have space-age toilets; what’s not to love?!

    **

    Customer Service

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/9/

There is something so incredible about the customer service Japanese people have to offer. You won’t find any other country that will treat you like royalty, no matter what type of establishment you’re in. Even their McDonald’s feel like a top class restaurant, by the time the server has treated you like a king or queen. You’ll find that customers always receive polite greetings, smiles, and small talk no matter what kind of business they step foot in. Let’s take petrol stations for example. Here the attendant will fill up your vehicle, wipe down your windshield, wipe a cloth over your windscreen wipers, and then ask if you have any rubbish you want taken away. Once all of those pleasantries are out of the way they will then bow as you drive your car out of the forecourt and won’t rise again until you’re out of sight. Some people may find this is all too overboard, but actually it is just another common courtesy of the Japanese people that we love. People say the US knows how to get customer service right, but those people have obviously never been to Japan.

    **

    Technology

    http://ninjajournalist.com/10-things-japanese-people-do-better-than-you/10/

Let’s end the list with something you were all expecting. There is no denying that Japanese people know how to do technology properly; it’s the reason their economy is as strong as it is. So, where do we start?! There’s the CD player (and CDs of course), the portable CD player, the pocket calculator, the digital camera, the VHS recorder, Blu-Rays, flash memory, and of course the bullet train. Now, Japan are working on robots and getting everything right. They have already come on leaps and bounds in robotic engineering, with the robotic exoskeleton for motion support being at the top of their awesome finds list. Not to mention the dancing ASIMO robot by Honda. It won’t be long before Japan finally crack this whole technology thing completely and the world turns into a (hopefully) much safer version of iRobot. As long as they don’t give them too much artificial intelligence or create an evil superpower hell bent on taking over the world, then we don’t think there’s anything wrong with building robots. Right?
