Two are better than one,
一人より二人のほうが幸せだ
because they have a good reward for their toil.
共に労苦すれば 彼らには幸せの報いがある
For if they fall, one will lift up the other;
たとえ一人が倒れても もう一人がその友を起こしてくれる
but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help.
一人は不幸だ 倒れても起こしてくれる友がいない
Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone?
また二人で寝れば温かいが ひとりではどうして暖まれよう
And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one.
たとえ一人が襲われても 二人でこれに立ち向かう
A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
三つ編みの糸はたやすくは切れない
