Leave traveling to those who don’t exist! Presumably for someone who is nothing, life, like a river, is a simple matter of flowing ever onwards. For those who think and feel, those who are awake, the ghastly experience of sitting on a train, in a car or in a ship lets them neither sleep nor wake. I return from any journey, however short, as if from a sleep full of dreams – in a state of torpid confusion, with all my sensations glued together, drunk on what I have seen. I can’t rest because my soul is sick. I can’t move because there’s something lacking between body and soul; it’s … Continue reading

The Muses (/ˈmjuːzɪz/; Ancient Greek: Μοῦσαι, Moũsai) are the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts in Greek mythology. They were considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, lyric songs, and myths that were related orally for centuries in these ancient cultures. They were later adopted by the Romans as a part of their pantheon. In current English usage, “muse” can refer in general to a person who inspires an artist, musician, or writer.

Countries pour money into the festivities, often going far over budget, with the hope that they’ll receive a return—either through tourist dollars or else through raising the city’s profile internationally. And, after the closing games, those hulking stadiums and sports venues are expensive to maintain. They also can be hard to find a use for. Domestic sports just don’t draw the same crowds as the Olympics do.

Most of us daydream. We can control it, unlike sleep. The content of our daydreams tends to reflect what is motivating or of importance to us. These daydreams are more related to our physical and social environment. They are parts of our daily activities varying from person to person depending upon his desires, or dislikes. This is a part of our waking consciousness. When you cannot solve your problem, you just throw yourself to your rocking chair and start fantasizing. You are just using your imagination to understand what other people are experiencing. Fantasy can contribute to your creativity thus making you more psychologically fit. Whether daydreams are adaptive or … Continue reading

I can only say that I made my observations during normal deep and healthy sleep, and that in 352 cases I had a full recollection of my day-life, and could act voluntarily, though I was so fast asleep that no bodily sensations penetrated into my perception. If anybody refuses to call that state of mind a dream, he may suggest some other name. For my part, it was just this form of dream, which I call “lucid dreams,” which aroused my keenest interest and which I noted down most carefully.

Wabi-sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”. It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically impermanence (無常), the other two being suffering (苦) and emptiness or absence of self-nature (空). Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

The story is based on a two-year period when François Mitterrand, then president of France, hired a personal cook, ruffling the feathers of the official in-house Elysée chef. In 1988, Mr. Mitterrand had just been re-elected for another seven years and began his new term by proclaiming in front of an adviser: “I want a woman from the country in my kitchen!” The search led to a recommendation by the Michelin-starred chef Joël Robuchon: Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch, a cook from the Périgord region, who had founded Foie Gras Weekend, a pioneering class teaching the region’s cuisine, as well as creating the École d’Art et Tradition Culinaire du Périgord, the area’s first … Continue reading

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. If you can dream it, you can do it. We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique. The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter. When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

… the sense of existence here is like that of escaping from an almost unbearable atmospheric pressure into a rarefied, highly oxygenated medium. That feeling continues: in Japan the law of life is not as with us, — that each one strives to expand his own individuality at the expense of his neighbour’s. But on the other hand, how much one loses! Never a fine inspiration, a deep emotion, a profound joy or a profoimd pain — never a thrill, or, as the French say so much better than we, a frisson. So literary work is dry, bony, hard, dead work. … … But how sweet the Japanese woman is! … Continue reading

It is not too much to expect that our children will enjoy in their homes electrical energy too cheap to meter; will know of great periodic regional famines in the world only as matters of history; will travel effortlessly over the seas and under them and through the air with a minimum of danger and at great speeds, and will experience a lifespan far longer than ours, as disease yields and man comes to understand what causes him to age. This is the forecast of an age of peace.

I have known throughout the years that I have been warning about the global fascist agenda that what we are about to see was inevitable. It was obvious that, despite the awakening of so many in the last decade, most people would need to see, touch, smell, hear and taste the fascism before they even began to accept that it was real. This mass-reluctance to see the signs and act upon them was always going to condemn the population to some levels of the Orwellian control-system before it is eventually dismantled. I stress that it will be dismantled, but not before it has gone a lot further yet. The question … Continue reading
