日本学術会議の情報関係の3研究連絡委員会を中心に、データ・情報・知識・文献などを対象とする体系的な情報学、情報知識学の振興の必要性が強く認識され、1988年に情報知識学会が設立された。
情報知識学の振興を目的とする本学会は、データ、情報、知識、資料、文献、文書等に関する諸問題、たとえば次のようなテーマに関する会員の研究、発表、意見交換などを支援することをめざす。
- 基礎理論； 情報や知識の本質、構造、蓄積、分類、検索、モデル、組織化、情報倫理などに関する研究
- 処理； 資料、文書の収集・整理・利用、データ･情報･知識の加工・変換・分析・評価・管理・保存などに関する研究
- 表現； 言語・記号、ターミノロジー、オントロジー、メディアなどに関する研究
- 流通； 標準化、規格、情報関連の権利・法律・制度･政策(例：知的財産権)、情報へのアクセス、情報リテラシー、情報教育などに関する研究
- 応用； 情報、資料、文書の管理、データベース、知識ベース、インターネット環境下での情報受発信、ビジネスモデル、電子図書館、電子出版、各分野での情報応用（例：生物医学情報、社会経済情報）などに関する研究
情報知識学会 (Japan Society of Information and Knowledge (JSKI))

The Japan Society of Information and Knowledge (JSIK) was established in April 1988 upon the requests from three research liaison committees of the Science Council of Japan related to the sciences of information and many other specialists in various fields. JSIK, through its continuous research activities for over 10 years, has been taking the lead in tackling a range of the problems on information and knowledge. Basic posture of JSIK’s activities is to find new directions in those problems such as development of information technology, establishment of the sciences of information and knowledge, methodology for effective utilization of information, and establishment of social norms.
JSIK intends to promote the sciences of information and knowledge by supporting publicizing research reports by the members and exchange of views and opinions among them on the problems of data, information, knowledge and documents. The subjects included are as follows:
1. Basic theory (essence and structure of knowledge and information;accumulation,retrieval, classification, models and organization of information; etc)
2. Processing (collection and classification of materials; modification, transformation, analysis, evaluation and management of data; etc)
3. Expression (language, symbols, terminology, medium, etc)
4. Circulation (standardization, reference, intellectual property, etc)
5. Application (document information management, database, knowledge-base, electronic library, etc)

もう数年に亘ってデータ、情報、知識というようなことをグーグルし続けて、こんな立派な学会が今日までヒットしなかったのは不思議だ。
情報や知識を掲げている割には、発信もあまりなく、情報や知識をシェアしようという意思が見られない。少なくとも、論文や会議・フォーラムなどで話された内容くらいは、トランスペアレントにウェブ上に載せたらどうだろうか。
グーグルでヒットしなければ、知られることはなく、知られなければ、存在しないと同じ。日本語や英語だけでなく、中国語やフランス語、スペイン語、ロシア語などで発信してこそ、情報知識学会といえるのではないだろうか。
それとも、学会というものは、21世紀になっても閉じられたものでいいと思っているのだろうか。
