Sunset over St Saphorin - Lavaux, Switzerland

I consider photography as a very special life philosophy based on the observation, understanding and respect for the world in which we live. Photography has become my voice, my means of transmitting my personal vision of the world and an opportunity for sharing with others the feelings that engulf me when I press on the shutter. Photography is my creative tool for stirring emotions in the same way as a brush for an artist or a pen for a writer. In my work, the outer landscape combines with my inner one, revealing who I am and what I feel. In a way, through photographing the world, I portray myself…

Sometimes, we find open landscapes which seem to have been created to be photographed. Landscapes when all elements in the land and sky seem as graphical as the drawing of a child, offering at the same time mixed feeling of awe, calm, wonder and a desire to be there. The Lavaux area, on the Swiss shore of Lake Geneva, is one of those places. Mountains, lake, villages, textured vineyards, reflections… Everything there cries out to be photographed. But as always, it is the photographer’s vision, the use of light, the composition and timing which transform the sublime view of a landscape into a touching emotion.

In my work I try to render my fascination for the world, to demonstrate that magic and mystery that exists all around us, and also to increase the understanding of the general public as to why it is so necessary to conserve wilderness and our environment. Lofty sentiments indeed but they provide the impetus to set out, again and again, with my tripod on my shoulder… If, by looking at my photographs, you feel transported to another place, if you feel the power of nature, if you can hear the water flowing, the wind blowing, the leaves rustling, the sound of the waves, and if you can feel the silence of the desert, the crisp cold of a winter dawn or the moist scent of the forest then… I will have attained my objective.

Inspiration is the trigger of a process by which creativity combines with a personal vision giving birth to a style which is unique to us as artists. I find that inspiration in Nature. Nature is my muse and my reason for being, the mirror of my dreams and a bottomless source of emotions and memories. When taking a photograph I try to “listen” to the landscape, absorb the spirit of the place where I am and understand its language. In a certain way, in order to photograph a forest I “become” a tree…

Do not study my work in search of answers, but of questions. Once made, my photographs are yours. You will find your own unique interpretation in them. When visiting my website, just sit back, relax and open your soul. What you are going to see and read comes directly from mine.
