and had it specially made in my village work
shop for your Excellency in sincere appreciation
of and great admiration for your unrivalled
leadership I had the good fortune of witnessing
during my tenure of office as Vice-President
of Central Liaison Office.

    負けたとはいえ、そして占領されていたとはいえ、ここまでへつらって、取り入って、自分が嫌にならなかったのだろうか。

    それともこれが、この人の欧米人との付き合い方だったのだろうか。

    そもそも結婚前に、正子に送った自分の写真に、

    なんていう添え書きをする人だ。

    欧米への感情は、時代のせいとはいえ、平らかではなかったとしか思えない。

    「クールな正子」とは正反対の「アンクールな次郎」。

    武相荘の展示を見ているうちに、なんだか次郎のことがとても可哀想に思えてきた。
