10 Iconic Ways to Propose in New York

    Your Engagement 101

    1. Grand Central
Stepping under the starry ceiling of Grand Central Terminal is like stepping into a classic film. Surprise her on her daily commute and run to her across the vaulted space like a classic film lover’s reunion. We guarantee bystanders will burst into applause when you propose.

    2. Empire State Building
Is there anything more New York than a skyscraper proposal? Take her to the observation deck of the Empire State Building and tell her to look into one of the viewfinders. Hold her engagement ring in front of the lens and ask her what she sees!

    3. Staten Island Ferry
Cuddle up with a cup of coffee on the ferry deck and watch the waves lap against Ellis Island- the place where so many New York stories began. As you look at the Statue of Liberty’s torch blazing against the nightsky and ask her to start her own new life with you- as your wife.

    4. Brooklyn Bridge
A beautiful landmark plus a beautiful view- how perfectly New York! We recommend renting some bikes and heading to the very center of the bridge- you can tell her it’s the best spot for a photo opportunity, then drop to one knee and surprise her with a scenic Brooklyn Bridge proposal.

    5. Top of the Tower Restaurant
Looking for a rooftop restaurant proposal? Head to Top of the Tower Restaurant at Beekman Tower Hotel, a lesser known art-deco skyscraper and hidden gem on the east side. For a NYC rooftop bar, it’s marvelously spacious with a cozy indoor bar and wrap-around outdoor and indoor dining with incredible views. Ask their friendly bartender to serve up some classic cocktails to toast your skyscraper proposal.

    6. Central Park
Central Park is bursting with romantic and cozy spots- Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Fountain,The BoatHouse Restaurant… For your proposal, however, we recommend a walk through Cherry Hill to elegant Bow Bridge, arching gracefully across the lake. Stop in the middle of this storybook bridge and like prince charming, declare your love with a proposal.

    7. The Cloisters
Nestled in Washington Heights, this medieval castle and branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a perfect hidden gem. Go in late spring, summer, or fall for unobstructed views of the Hudson River from the castle-like turrets and watch the butterflies dance in the columned courtyard. It’s super romantic and you are sure to find a quiet corner to ask your important question.

    8. New York Public Library
Is your girl a bibliophile or a mystery lover? Then you should propose in the New York Public Library. Ask one of the librarians to help you out in advance with a book request- any book will do, but her favorite book or a book of poetry would make a nice touch. When it is available for pick-up, slip your written proposal into the book and tell her to look at the note “found” inside.

    9. The High Line
Head to this elevated former train line turned park for a low-key, urban proposal. Enter the High Line in Chelsea with a picnic lunch or grab a bite and a glass of wine at Terroir on 15th, then walk the park amidst the greenery and look down on the yellow cabs and pedestrians of Chelsea below. Sit in the stadium seating with a transparent view of the street below like a theater, and tell her you want her to be a part of your story forever- with a ring.

    10. The River Café
Perhaps a trifle touristy, but we are pretty sure The River Cafe’s amazing location and jaw-dropping view of the Manhattan skyline will make up for it. Perched on the edge of Brooklyn, the best place to propose is on the patio beneath the strings of lights and the Brooklyn Bridge arching overhead.
