서울대가 신규 건립 중인 중앙도서관 신관(관정도서관)에 반기문(69·사진) 유엔 사무총장의 이름을 딴 ‘반기문 룸’을 만들기로 했다고 9일 밝혔다. 서울대가 반기문 룸을 만드는 이유는 반 총장이 지난달 초 서울대에 도서관 신축·리모델링 기금으로 금일봉을 전달해 왔기 때문이다. 반 총장은 도서관장 앞으로 보낸 서신을 통해 “학생들이 공부에 전념할 수 있는 좋은 환경을 만들어줬으면 좋겠다”고 했다. 서울대 도서관 관계자는 “관정도서관의 그룹 스터디룸 50여개실 중 1곳을 반기문 룸으로 정하기로 했다”고 말했다. 반 총장은 서울대 외교학과 63학번 동문이다.
서울대 관계자는 “반 총장의 뜻을 존중하고 기부자에 대한 예우 차원에서 기부 액수는 밝히지 않기로 했다”면서 “반 총장이 후배들의 학업에 관심과 애정을 보였다는 사실이 중요하다”고 했다.
서울대는 작년 3월부터 도서관 시설 환경 개선 기금 모금 캠페인을 펼치고 있다. 내년 2월까지 1000억원 모금 목표이며, 지금까지 662억원이 모였다.

SNU Names Library Room After UN Chief Ban Ki-moon

Seoul National University announced on Tuesday that it will open a room named after UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the new building of its central library, which is currently under construction. Ban made a donation to help build the new library and renovate the existing one early last month.
In a letter addressed to the chief of the SNU library, Ban wrote, “I hope the university can make a good environment for students so that they can focus on their studies.” An official from the library said, “We will name one of about 50 group-study rooms in the library after Ban.” Ban is an alumnus of SNU, having entered the university in 1963 and majored in international relations.
An SNU official said, “We have decided not to disclose the amount of the donation Ban made, out of courtesy to him and with respect to his wishes. The important thing is that he has shown how much he cares about young students.”
SNU has been fundraising to improve its library facilities since March last year. It aims to raise W100 billion (US$1=W1,142) by February 2014 and has so far accumulated W66.2 billion.
ソウル大図書館に「潘基文ルーム」新設へ

ソウル大学は9日、現在建設を進めている中央図書館新館（クァンジョン図書館）に、潘基文（パン・ギムン）国連事務総長（69）＝写真＝の名前を冠した「潘基文ルーム」を新設する方針を固めた、と発表した。潘事務総長は先月初め、図書館の新築や改修のための基金として同大に金一封を送っており、これを受け同大は「潘基文ルーム」を新設する方針を決めたという。潘事務総長は図書館長に送った親書で「学生たちが勉学に専念できる優れた環境を整備してほしい」とつづったとのことだ。同大図書館の関係者は「クァンジョン図書館に約50室設けるグループスタディー室のうち1室を「潘基文ルーム」と命名することにした」と説明した。なお、潘事務総長は同大外交学科のOBだ。
同大の関係者は「潘事務総長の意向を尊重し、寄付者に対する礼遇という観点から、寄付金の額は公表しないこととした。潘事務総長が後輩たちにの学業に関心を向け、愛情を注いだという事実が重要だ」と語った。
同大は昨年3月から、図書館の環境改善のための基金を集めるキャンペーンを行っている。来年2月までに1000億ウォン（約88億8000万円）を集めるのが目標で、これまでに662億ウォン（約58億7850万円）が寄せられている。
