European Union

EUAt the present moment, the European Union has 24 official languages. This means that every discussion and document needs to be translated from one of these languages into every single other one. The current cost is approximately 1 billion euros a year.
If there was one official language, the translation would only be from one language into the 24, which would not only reduce the annual cost of translating, but would also facilitate in people communicating across the Union.

Background: At the present moment, the European Union has 23 official languages, with Croatian becoming the 24th as of July this year. This means that every discussion and document needs to be translated from one of these languages into every single other one. The current cost is approximately 1 billion euros a year.
If there was one official language, the translation would only be from one language into the 23 [24], which would not only reduce the annual cost of translating, but would also facilitate in people communicating across the Union.
