英訳文
A person who truly understands does not speak, a person who speaks does not understand (those who know don’t speak; those who speak don’t know). A person who understands “the way” shuts his ears, eyes and mouth to prevent comings and goings of knowledge. He dulls his senses and disentangles tangles of his senses. He softens his brightness and assimilates into dust. This is called “mysterious assimilation”. You cannot either make a friend of him or become estranged from him. You cannot either benefit him or damage him. You cannot either respect him or despise him. So he is the most sacred in the world.
英訳文

現代語訳
本当に理解している人はそれらについて話さない。べらべらと語りたがる者はまだ理解が足りないのだ。本当に道理が解っている人間は耳目や口を塞いで余計な知識の出入り口を閉ざし、鋭敏な感覚を鈍くして意識のもつれを解きほぐし、自らの輝きを和らげて何でもない塵と一つになる。これを神秘なる同一と言う。この同一を得た人は、近づいて親しむ事もできず、遠ざけて疎遠にする事もできない。利益を与える事もできなければ、損害を与える事もできない。敬って尊ぶ事もできなければ、卑しんで侮る事もできない。そうしてこの世で最も貴い存在となっているのだ。

現代語訳
